Working with FireEagle team to resolve conduit creation issue

Posted in News by Snikkr Team on January 4, 2010

You cannot currently create a FireEagle conduit from Snikkr. Those of you with conduits already set up should be fine. Looking into it, and have engaged with FireEagle team as well.

Snikkr 1.5 for iPhone released and available in AppWorld

The iPhone AppStore now features Snikkr 1.5, with the same great features as the BlackBerry version. iPhone version also has plus support for push notifications to “ping” your friends for their current location if they have not updated it via Snikkr in a while.

We will post more soon about the iPhone version.

Looking for alpha testers for Snikkr for iPhone!

Posted in News by Snikkr Team on September 29, 2009

Snikkr for iPhone is coming together! We are looking for a few dozen alpha testers we can send a copy to, and get feedback from. We would like owners of a 3G or 3GS iPhone, who have experience with Snikkr-like products: maps and navigation, local search, friend tracking, etc.

This alpha will be distributed using Apple’s support for “ad-hoc” distribution. That means you would send us your iPhone’s UDID, then we send you a couple of app files to install onto your iPhone via iTunes. An application can only be distributed this way to a handful of devices, so we are only considering “serious applicants”. Users who have installed apps this way before are especially welcome.

You can comment on this post, or send an email to iphonetest[at]snikkr.com if you are interested.

Just a small change to Snikkr’s default map provider. A few other minor fixes as well.

Snikkr now works better on Vodaphone network

Posted in News by Snikkr Team on September 16, 2009

Some Snikkr Vodaphone users were getting errors when using the application. These errors may have been related to Vodaphone’s use of the Novarra transcoder. We have updated the Snikkr server software to try to prevent these errors. Any Snikkr Vodaphone users who were seeing lots of errors, please try the application again.

We welcome feedback here or at feedback[at]snikkr.com.

Snikkr Mobile updated to 1.0.090905

Posted in News by Snikkr Team on September 10, 2009

We have posted a minor update to Snikkr on our site. Next time your application launches, you should see a prompt to download the new version. (You will have to explicitly “Exit” Snikkr from its main menu and then launch it again to get this to happen).

The update has a few bug fixes, in particular, auto-complete (e.g., in the Advanced Directions and Show Address dialogs) now properly handles Contact List items with no names (just company names). Thanks to one of our wonderful users for pointing out that this wasn’t working any longer.

Snikkr Mobile leaves beta!

Posted in News by Snikkr Team on August 23, 2009

With the release today of Snikkr Mobile 1.0.90818, we leave the beta phase and move into release. For now, the release version (available on our web site at www.snikkr.com, or in the BlackBerry AppWorld) remains free.

The update contains just a few UI improvements and one bug fix, related to network connections when you are not logged in to Snikkr.

You will find that driving directions now display on two lines rather than one, so they are seldom truncated. Also, when you locate yourself, and see the info about your location and status at the bottom of the screen, it will indicate whether you current position comes from the GPS, or from the nearest cell tower or WiFi hotspot.

Open beta for Snikkr Mobile

Posted in News by Snikkr Team on July 7, 2009

Snikkr Mobile is now in open beta release. Get it at http://bit.ly/snikkr.

We are looking for a few thousand more beta users in the next six weeks, so if you have a late-model BlackBerry (OS 4.5+), please try it out and send us some feedback.

You can even send feedback directly from the mobile app, and/or desktop web interface.

Snikkr Beta Out Today!

Posted in News by Snikkr Team on June 30, 2009

We finalized the feature set, nailed a few more bugs, and packaged the Snikkr Mobile release into a Beta. This beta will be live for 2-4 weeks at http://www.snikkr.com, and then move over to the BlackBerry AppWorld.

The first release of Snikkr represents what we feel is an effective and fun set of location, social and productivity features, that puts us significantly ahead of our competitors, who only do one or another of these things.

The beta feature set speeds up common operations by 5-10x over standalone products.

Two quick examples:

  • Send your location or ETA to everyone you are meeting with: One click
  • Get directions to a contact’s house, or upcoming event: One click

No GPS for Snikkr on VZ BB 8330 Curve

Posted in News by Snikkr Team on June 19, 2009

Note to our BB 8330 (Verizon and Telus) users: GPS is locked on those devices, so you can get cell position but not GPS. GPS will work for your built in BB Maps and VZ Navigator, but not third party apps like Snikkr and Google Maps.
